With the possibility of foreign retaliation via cyber attacks, Homeland Security has urged companies across the nation to update security software, back-up computer data and keep an eye out for signs of a hack.
UTICA, N.Y. -- With the possibility of foreign retaliation via cyber attacks, Homeland Security has urged companies across the nation to update security software, back-up computer data and keep an eye out for signs of a hack.
Anthony Martino, director at Utica College’s North East Cyber Forensics Center, says all agencies, including local ones like DFAS and Rome Labs, should always follow procedures to ensure cyber safety.
“Well certainly all agencies should be concerned about cyber threats, it’s that a cyber attack can be asymmetrical. It doesn’t necessarily have to be on a military target in order to be effective, so I think some of the most critical concerns in any cyber threat is critical infrastructure,” Anthony Martino, director at Utica College North East Cyber Forensics Center.
Martino says a cyber attack could create service and operation issues, putting internal and external data at risk. Cyber attacks can create issues sending or receiving data and emails, shut down systems and breach data security.
